What is a LocTote flak sack?

The LocTote flak sack is designed to keep your belongings safe. This slash-resistant bag is like a portable safe for your valuables. Simply lock the bag closed or to any secure object – and leave it without worrying about it being tampered with or stolen.

Do your bags come in different colors?

Right now we currently only have Steel Grey in stock but new colors will be available soon! If there is a particular color you would like to see, please tell us by sending an email to info@novusfumus.nl

Why not just make bags out of Kevlar®?

There are several reasons why LOCTOTE bags are far superior to any bags made out of Kevlar.  First, our fabric is significantly more cut-resistant. Most Kevlar® fabrics offer an ISO 13997:1999 blade cut resistance level 2 and in very rare occasions level 3 (on a scale of 1 to 5). Our fabric offers the highest cut resistance level possible – level 5, which makes it 5 times more cut resistant than Kevlar® products.  Additionally, Kevlar has poor UV resistance, causing it to turn brown and weaken if exposed to direct sunlight.  LOCTOTE bags will not do this.

Why don’t you call these cut-proof bags?

Because they’re not. If we say “cut-proof”, somebody, somewhere, with some type of cutting device will post an internet video of our bag being cut. Our bags are made out of the most advanced slash-resistant fabric in the world. They are very difficult to cut, but they can be cut. If they couldn’t be cut at all, we wouldn’t be able to make them. Our bags will keep your stuff safe, except under the most hostile circumstances.

Can a thief just cut or break the locking strap?

No, not very easily. Our straps have a breaking strength in excess of 1,000 pounds, and the steel aircraft cable inside makes them very resistant to most cutters. Even the grommets are installed in a proprietary way that enables them to hold a 1,000 pound load without tearing loose. Odds are that after a few tugs and slashes, most thieves would move on to an easier target.

Are the bags stiff, rough, or scratchy?

No, not at all. And to prove it, I stuffed one of our bags and had my youngest daughter sleep with it as her pillow every night for a week. She found our latex-free fabric to be soft, comfortable, non-abrasive, and non-irritating. Unfortunately, my wife cannot say the same thing about my approach for testing softness…

Are the bags heavy?

No. The physical weight of our fabric is similar to that of a heavy canvas or nylon, but our bags are much softer and more flexible.  The Flak Sack weighs 1 lb 7.25 ozs and the lock weighs 3.75 ozs.

A bag is only as strong as the thread that holds it together. What kind of thread do you use?

We use a high-performance twisted multifilament polyester thread with advanced UV protection and a non-wicking finish specially designed for outdoor applications where seam strength retention and fade prevention during UV exposure are required. The advanced UV protection reduces strength degradation over traditional filament polyesters while also reducing color loss and fading. The non-wicking finish helps reduce moisture migration through seams.

Is the bag bulletproof?

No! Absolutely 100% NOT! No fabric will protect you from a gunshot. It is irresponsible to even imply otherwise. Don’t consider this, or any other textile, for gunshot protection even for a second.

Can the bag be cut?

Of course it can. It’s a textile, and nothing is cut-proof. With the right tool, you can cut through anything. We didn’t perform a miracle, we just created a really tough bag that would require a lot of time or effort to get into. In most cases, thieves will just move on.

How can a soft comfortable material be so strong?

We use a proprietary fabric made out of an innovative combination of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and other technical fibers weaved by special high-density knitting machines, creating a fabric that is unlike anything else anywhere.

I’ve seen lots of security bags with a locking zipper. Why don’t you just use that instead of the lock strap?

The construction of zippers, even metal ones, requires that they be set into a fabric tape and then stitched into the bag. This fabric tape creates a weak point where the bag can be easily cut-open, circumventing the zipper altogether.

After repeated use, little white hairs are starting to appear on my bag. Is it defective and should I be concerned?

This is perfectly normal for these types of fabrics. We do extensive lab testing on every batch of bags, and we can assure you that the bag is not weakened or compromised in any way by this.

If this fabric is so great, why isn’t it being used for other applications where it could save lives?

Actually it is. Our partner who developed the fabric makes protective clothing for law enforcement, corrections, homeland security, and mental health workers. We have an exclusive license to use it for the bags and totes market.

Is it true that aluminum foil works just as well as all the RFID blocking materials on the marketplace?

Actually, aluminum foil works as well as many of the RFID blocking materials on the market — not well at all. It will somewhat weaken the RFID signal across a very limited spectrum, but it will NOT prevent your cards and passports from being scanned through fabrics at a close range. We use a tested and certified RFID blocking material which exceeds industry standards for shielding all contactless credit cards, passports, drivers licenses, ISO 14443A/B and EPC Gen1/Gen2 contactless smart cards that operate at 13.56 Mhz and above (13.56 Mhz interface is the one that typically contains personal data).

Why do your bags cost so much?

As you can probably tell by now, we do not skimp on anything. We use the best fabric, thread, hardware, straps, rope, leather, and workers available. All this stuff is very expensive. We are not making the best margins in the business – just the best products.

Will Novus Fumus reimburse me if my bag or my stuff gets damaged or stolen?

No. We cannot accept liability for any actual, consequential, or incidental damages or losses incurred as a result of using a LOCTOTE product. Though we are confident that we produce the best and most secure products available, we cannot control the situations and circumstances in which they are used, or the forces and abuses to which they may be subjected.
